Alang Reports 13 Ships for Demolition Fortnightly in March’17

Alang, one of the largest ship breaking yards in the world and a major source of scrap in India, reported total 13 ships reached for breaching in the month of March’17.

Total 4 vessels, carrying 28,155 LDT are still waiting for breaching in this month and 1 vessel of 10,958 LDT is expected in near term.

In Feb’17, total 15 ships had arrived to Alang (Gujarat) for demolition compared to 29 ships in Jan’17.

MS Billet price have moved up to INR 100-600/MT W-o-W and hovering at the range of INR 26,000-30,200/MT. In line Ship breaking prices in a week have increased by INR 900/MT and hovering in the range of INR 21,100-24,800/MT.

Global Market Price Scenario

During last week there is a strong sense of positivity in the sub-continent markets, with few sellers available for sale monopolizing buyers’ interest. It is reported that prices on offer subsequently increased with buyers from Bangladesh and Pakistan leading the way with strong numbers. Although the recycling market is flexible, for the time being and at least until the coming monsoon season the trend appears to be positive.

Global ship breaking market was on positive side in week 12 as prices across the world moved up to USD 5/lt Ldt for general and USD 5/lt Ldt for tanker cargoes.

Ship breaking prices in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are assessed at USD 335/lt Ldt, USD 340/lt Ldt and USD 340/lt Ldt respectively for general cargo.
