India: Petcoke Imports Rise 62.3% M-o-M in Feb’17

Petcoke import tendency among Indian buyers have regained momentum.

This is visible in the imports increasing again after a brief decline in the imports in Dec’16 and Jan’17 due to the slowdown in the Indian cement industry. Cements producers in the country have resumed operating their plants at higher rates, resulting in imports going up.

Petcoke imports into the country in Feb’17 were up by around 62.3% to 0.92 MnT over the imports of 0.57 MnT in Jan’17, an analysis by CoalMint Research shows.

Conforming to the regular trend, imports from USA were higher than that from Saudi Arabia. Notably, imports from both the regions during the month were higher in comparison with that in the previous month.

Amongst the various ports in the country, the Kandla port had handled the highest volume of imports during the month, followed by the Karaikal and Vizag ports.
