Indian Met Coke Prices Sink on Low Demand

Met Coke prices have slipped in India as demand was low.

Buying interest for Met Coke has not yet revived in the country. Buyers have been waiting and watching to see Met Coke prices decline to significant levels as Coking Coal prices were receding in the key international market—Australia.

Met Coke import offers have gone down week-on-week.

The latest import offer for the 64% CSR Met Coke is assessed lower at USD 265/MT CFR India. In the same manner, the recent import offer for the 62% CSR Met Coke is assessed down at USD 262/MT CFR India.

Domestic producers in India have reduced their prices to push sales in the lackluster environment. The downward revisions were within the INR 500-1000/MT range.

The current ex-works prices in India for the Blast Furnace grade are at: INR 20,500/MT (east coast) and INR 20,500-26,500/MT(west coast).

IMPORTS

Imports have shrunk as buyers lowered procurements. During Feb’17, a lower volume of around 0.13 MnT was imported into India, according to data collected by CoalMint Research. The import volume plunged by about 45.8% over the imports of around 0.24 MnT in Jan’17.

Imports are not likely to go up in the near future as buyers are likely to wait-and-watch until the end of this month.
