Turkey Coal Imports Declines in Jan’17

Coal Imports have been minutely declined M-o-M, but yearly imports have been increased.

Turkey, one of the major coal importers, received 3.29 MnT coal in Jan’16 imports which went down by 2% M-o-M as compared with 3.37 MnT in Dec’16. However, Yearly imports have been risen by 15% in comparison to 2.86 MnT in Jan’16.

Grade-wise Coal Imports:
Turkey mainly imports Bituminous coal which accounts for more than 65% of the total coal imports.

Other grade of coal imported by the country includes Coking coal, Pet coke, coke and small quantity of Anthracite.

In Jan’17, bituminous coal imports were 2.27 MnT, followed by 0.54 MnT of coking coal, 0.33 MnT of Pet Coke, and rest of the amount includes Coke and Anthracite coal.

Of the total imports in Jan’17, Bituminous and pet coke commodities have decreased, while all the other coal commodities have increased on monthly basis.

Major Exporting Countries:
Colombia remained top coal exporter to Turkey in Jan’17, followed by Russia, USA, Australia, Canada, and South Africa.

Colombia supplied 1.35 MnT coal in Jan’17. Imports went down by 3% M-o-M in comparison with 1.39 MnT in Dec’16. However, yearly exports have risen significantly by 53% against 0.88 MnT in Jan’16.

Russia, the second-largest coal exporters, exported 0.86 MnT in Jan’17. Exports went down 19% M-o-M and 23% Y-o-Y.

USA, the third-largest coal exporters to Turkey, reported major growth in yearly exports by 137% to 0.47 MnT in Jan’17. Monthly exports have also increased by 15%.
