Japan: Flat Steel Exports Declined in Jan’17

According to the latest customs data, Japan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) have declined by 5.3%, M-o-M basis to 2.14 MnT in Jan’17 against 2.26 MnT in Dec’16.

If yearly comparison is made,  Japan flat steel exports witnessed a downfall of 1.3% in Jan’17 against previous year. In Jan’16 the same stood at 2.17MnT.

However, nation’s flat steel exports have registered a marginal increase of 0.75% to 27.94 MnT in 2016 against 27.73 MnT in 2015

Grade-Wise Japan Flat Steel exports
As per grade-wise analysis, 7208 exports decline by 3.26% M-o-M in Jan’17 against Dec’16 whereas 7209,7210 and 7212 have plunged in Jan’17 against previous month. Although, other flat steel grades exports like 7225 have moved up by 0.03% in Jan’17 against Dec’16

Country-Wise Japan Flat Steel Exports –
Thailand was the major flat steel importer and 3,53,614/MT was imported from Japan in Jan’17 against 3,40,303/ MT of flat steel in Dec’16. Other major importing countries include China, Korea followed by Mexico and Vietnam
