Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome ore production in Odisha has been recorded at 389,199 MT in Jan’17. It is about 25% below the production witnessed in Dec’16.
Production by the captive miners have declined by 8% M-o-M as well. Balasore Alloys witnessed a massive increase of around 58% in its production on M-o-M basis. IDICOL on the other hand, registered a mammoth surge in its production summing up to 16,143 MT in Jan’17 against 2,290 MT in Dec’16. IMFA, FACOR and Jindal Stainless have recorded lower production against previous month.
TATA Steel, one of the largest merchant miners in the country, registered a fall of 25% in production. OMC has also witnessed a substantial decrease of 51% in its production by 92,404 MT in Jan’17. B.C. Mohanty & Sons contributed significantly towards non-captive productivity recording an substantial increase of 108% in its production whereas Saruabil Chromite Mines did not produce at all in Jan’17.
