Tata Steel’s Met Coke Plant Capacity Expansion Project Gets Environmental Nod

Tata Steel has received environmental clearance to expand capacity of the existing Met Coke plant at its Haldia facility in West Bengal from 1.6 MnTPA to 2.2 MnTPA. The capacity expansion of the plant, the largest in Asia, will entail INR 769.45 crore of expenditure.

The company also has another Met Coke plant at its Hoogly facility in the Purba Medinpur district of West Bengal.

To operate the plant, Coking Coal from the company’s capitive mine at Jharia in Dhanbad and imports from Australia are used.
