Australia, world’s largest iron ore exporter has exported 66 MnT iron ore in Jan’17against 57.7 MnT in Jan’16.
On Y-o-Y basis, Australian iron ore exports have moved up by 14%.
Out of the total exports, the country shipped more than 85% to China and rest to other countries.
Port-wise shipments in Jan’17
Australia’s Port hedland-the largest bulk terminal has exported around 40.9 MnT iron ore in Jan’17. Out of the total quantity exported through Port Hedland, 35.6 MnT was exported to China and rest to others.
Following Port Hedland, Walcott Port turned out to be the 2nd largest iron ore delivery port in Jan’17.

Major iron ore export destinations in Jan’17
Australia has been exporting around 80% of iron ore to top iron ore import destinations namely China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Great Britain.
China-the largest importer of Australian iron ore contributed 86% of total exports and has imported 57.1 MnT in Jan’17 against 46.72 MnT in Jan’16.
Japan-the 2nd largest iron ore importer of Australian iron ore contributed 7.2% and has imported 4.8 MnT iron ore against 5.86 MnT in Jan’16.
Korea- 3rd largest iron ore importer has imported 3.63 MnT iron ore against 3.58 MnT in Jan’16.
