Met Coke imports into India declined 25% in Jan’17 as compared with the imports in Dec’16, according to CoalMint Research. The decline in the imports could be attributed to the prevalence of low demand in the country.
In Jan’17, 0.24 MnT of Met Coke was imported into the country that was lower than the imports in the previous month, at 0.32 MnT.

In an interesting deviation, Colombia is gradually emerging as a prominent region of import among Indian buyers. Apparently, the underlying reason is due to the imposition of Anti Dumping duty on the imports from China and Australia; prompting Indian buyers to look for alternate markets.

Among the various ports in India, the Hazira port had handled the largest quantum of import traffic during the month; followed by the Mormugao and Paradip ports.
