Rupee up by 23 paise to 52.68 against dollar

The rupee gained 23 paise to 52.68 against the US dollar in early trade today on the Interbank Foreign Exchange market, extending yesterday's strength on hopes of increased capital inflows following GAAR postponement.

Dealers said expectations of more capital inflows following Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee's deferring the General Anti-Avoidance Rules (GAAR) by one year and selling of dollars by exporters kept rupee's sentiments firm.

The rupee had closed 56 paise higher at Rs 52.91/92 against the dollar yesterday.
