India: OMC raises base prices marginally for Oct’26 chrome ore auction

  • Indian ferro chrome prices edge up m-o-m amid improved demand
  • Vedanta-FACOR schedules ferro chrome auction on same day

Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) has scheduled its upcoming chrome ore auction for 22 October, with the offered quantity unchanged m-o-m at 100,000 t. Base prices have increased marginally by 1% (INR 100-402/t) m-o-m across grades, indicating a slight improvement in market sentiment amid firm ferro chrome prices and relatively better domestic buying interest.

Additionally, India’s chrome ore dispatches declined 5% m-o-m to 261,270 t in August 2026, from 275,650 t in July, mainly due to monsoons. Dispatches from OMC fell by 20% m-o-m in August 2026.

The increase in chrome ore base prices is likely supported by a rise of INR 700/t ($7/t) m-o-m in the monthly average of Indian high-carbon (HC) ferro chrome prices in October. Improved domestic buying, along with firm reductant costs, has helped support ferro chrome prices. This has provided some upward support to chrome ore pricing, although the extent of the increase remains limited.

Meanwhile, Vedanta-FACOR has also scheduled its ferro chrome auction on the same day, 22 October. The auction will feature four lots of HC ferro chrome, comprising two lots of Cr:57% min (10-150 mm), one lot of Cr:54% min (10-20 mm) and another lot of Cr:51% min (0-10 mm). The auction results are expected to provide further indications of buyers’ purchasing interest and prevailing price expectations in the domestic market.
