Bangladesh, has always been a key destination for imports of various steel commodities like bulk scrap, HBI, steel coils, steel billets, Pig iron.
According to data maintained by SteelMint, imports of various steel commodities has seen a decent growth. Bulk scrap imports in Jan’17 remained at 99,124 MT against 36,000 MT in Jan’16. On similar lines, imports of steel coils remained at 80,590 MT against 57,400 MT, steel billets at 44,000 MT against 66,150 MT, Pig iron 15,750 MT against zero imports in Jan’16.
In addition, exports of mill scale from Bangladesh remained nil in Jan’17.
Bangladesh continues to increase imports of metallic commodities owing to increasing melting capacities. The country majorly imports Pig iron/HBI from India and Russia as there is less voyage time.
