- Existing rates and value caps remain unchanged
- Extension covers exports from DTA, AA, SEZ and EOU units
The Indian government has extended the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) scheme until 31 December, 2026, providing continued export support to eligible exporters. The extension was notified by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on September 30. Under the notification, the RoDTEP scheme will continue to apply to exports made by Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) units, Advance Authorisation (AA) holders, Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units and Export Oriented Units (EOUs).
How RoDTEP supports exporters
The RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) scheme is a government export-support policy that provides a rebate on certain taxes and duties paid by exporters but not refunded through other mechanisms. The benefit is intended to reduce the tax burden embedded in exported products and improve the competitiveness of Indian exports. Eligible exporters receive the rebate at notified rates, subject to applicable value caps.
Existing RoDTEP rates remain unchanged
The government has kept the existing RoDTEP rates and value caps unchanged during the extended period. These rates and caps, as applicable on 30 September, will continue through 31 December. The RoDTEP scheme provides exporters with a rebate on certain duties and taxes that are not otherwise refunded or remitted. The continuation is intended to maintain the existing export support framework during the extended period.
Implications for rice exporters
The extension is relevant for India’s rice and other agricultural exporters, as eligible shipments can continue to receive benefits under the existing RoDTEP framework through the end of 2026. For rice exporters, the continuation of the scheme provides greater clarity on the applicable export incentive framework for shipments during the final quarter of the year. Since the government has not changed the existing rates or value caps, exporters can continue to operate under the same RoDTEP structure that was applicable on 30 September.
Outlook
The extension provides policy continuity for exporters through December 31, 2026, allowing eligible rice and other product exporters to continue operating under the existing RoDTEP framework. With rates and value caps unchanged, exporters can plan shipments under the current rebate structure through the end of the year.
