- Selected G8 sources attract premiums above 200%

South Eastern Coalfields Ltd. (SECL) allocated 194,000 t in its e-auction held on 26 September 2026 against 270,000 t offered, with strong bidding across several mine-grade combinations. Notably, SECL held an auction after almost a month. Production & dispatches have been impacted due to monsoons making supplies tight. G8 recorded particularly firm competition, while G6 and G9 also attracted substantial premiums. Winning prices varied significantly by mine, highlighting source-specific buyer preference.
G8 records strong premiums across sources
G8 saw the strongest bidding among the offered grades. Beherabandh UG recorded a winning price of INR 6,836/t against a notified price of INR 1,931/t, translating into a 254.0% premium. Rajnagar OC followed with a winning price of INR 6,782/t and a 245.1% premium.
Jhilmili UG also attracted strong competition, with a winning price of INR 5,942/t against INR 1,931/t notified, resulting in a 207.7% premium.
G6 and G9 also attract firm bids
Rampur Batura G6 recorded the highest winning price in the auction at INR 7,678/t, against a notified price of INR 2,761/t, resulting in a 178.1% premium.
NCPH UG Cluster G6 also attracted strong bidding at INR 7,092/t, carrying a 156.9% premium over the notified INR 2,761/t.
Damini UG G9 recorded a winning price of INR 4,394/t against INR 1,556/t notified, resulting in a 182.4% premium. Katkona UG G3 saw comparatively lower bidding, with a winning price of INR 6,272/t and an 81.8% premium over INR 3,449/t.

G8 prices rise at comparable mines
The 26 September auction showed higher winning prices for the same mine and grade at Jhilmili UG and Rajnagar OC compared with the 22 August auction.
At Jhilmili UG G8, the winning price increased to INR 5,942/t from INR 4,229/t, a 40.5% increase. Its premium also rose from 119.0% to 207.7%.
At Rajnagar OC G8, the winning price increased to INR 6,782/t from INR 4,130/t, up 64.2%. The premium increased from 113.9% to 245.1%.

Buyer participation
Bagadiya Brothers was the largest buyer in the 26 September auction, securing 20,000 t, comprising 10,000 t each of G8 and G6. Kalyani Minerals followed with 19,500 t, including 15,000 t G8, while Indermani Mineral India secured 16,450 t across G9, G6 and G8. ACC Ltd purchased 15,000 t of G6, followed by B.S. Sponge with 14,000 t across G8 and G6. Rungta Mines secured 10,000 t of G8, while several other buyers participated across multiple grades.
Overall, the 26 September auction showed substantially stronger bidding for selected G8 sources than the 22 August auction. The sharp rise in winning prices at comparable Jhilmili and Rajnagar G8 sources indicated stronger competition for these specific mine-grade combinations, while the latest auction also recorded high premiums for G6 and G9 material.
