India: Chrome ore dispatches decline 5% m-o-m in Aug’26

  • Ferro chrome prices fall INR 3,000/t ($31/t)
  • IMFA remains largest buyer

India’s chrome ore dispatches declined 5% m-o-m to 261,270 t in August 2026, from 275,650 t in July, mainly due to lower dispatches from OMC and a INR 3,000/t ($31/t) m-o-m decline in ferro chrome prices during the month.

Among major miners, IMFA’s dispatches increased 16% m-o-m to 72,063 t, while Tata Steel’s rose 21% to 17,980 t. In contrast, OMC’s dispatches fell 20% to 125,485 t, while FACOR recorded a 10% decline to 16,515 t.

Procurement trends

IMFA remained the largest chrome ore buyer in August, sourcing its entire 72,063 t requirement from captive mines. Jindal Stainless ranked second, procuring 44,530 t, of which 70% (31,017 t) came from OMC and remaining 30% (13,513 t) from captive sources. Shyam Metalics & Energy ranked third with 18,883 t, sourced entirely from OMC.
