Odisha Iron Ore Production Climbs 46% Y-o-Y in 2016

India’s largest iron ore producing state – Odisha has been witnessing sharp increase in iron ore production. In 2016, Odisha’s iron ore production was recorded at 92.88 MnT compared to 63.71 MnT in CY15. Thus, state’s iron ore production has augmented by 46% on yearly basis.

However on monthly premises, Odisha iron ore production has increased marginally by 3% from 8.68 MnT in Nov’16 to 8.92 MnT in Dec’16.

So far in this fiscal (till Dec’16) Odisha’s iron ore production was recorded at 68.4 MnT up 34% Y-o-Y. In the same period last fiscal, the figure stood at 51.2 MnT.

Rungta Mines – the largest iron ore producer in Odisha registered a production of 16.6 MnT during Apr-Dec’16. Other major merchant iron ore producers were Serajuddin Mines at 7.62 MnT and KJS Ahluwalia mines at 4.75 MnT.

State-owned miner – OMC produced 2.7 MnT iron ore during Apr-Dec’16.

Talking about captive mines, Tata Steel’s iron ore production stood at 8.66 MnT and that of SAIL was at 5.19 MnT.
