- EUR 30 million invested to boost Turkish capacity to 120,000 t
- New facilities expand PET and HDPE packaging production
Austrian plastics packaging manufacturer and recycler ALPLA has commissioned new production facilities in Izmir and Adana, Türkiye, following a combined investment of approximately EUR 30 million (USD 34.5 million). According to Anadolu Agency, the expansion increases ALPLA’s annual processing capacity in Türkiye from approximately 90,000 t to 120,000 t, representing a rise of around 33%. The investment strengthens local packaging supply and expands production capabilities across key polymer applications.
Capacity and product portfolio
The Izmir facility, located in the Tire Organised Industrial Zone, produces polyethylene terephthalate (PET) preforms, closures, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) blow-moulded bottles and PET blow-moulded bottles, according to Anadolu Agency.
The Adana facility represents an investment of approximately EUR 10 million (USD 11.5 million), while the Izmir plant accounts for around EUR 20 million (USD 23.0 million). Together, the facilities expand ALPLA’s manufacturing network and improve proximity to packaging customers in Türkiye.
The reported increase relates to processing capacity, not confirmed additional polymer consumption. Actual resin demand will depend on plant utilisation, product mix, production ramp-up and customer orders.
Global and regional context
ALPLA reported EUR 5.2 billion (USD 6.0 billion) in turnover in 2025, compared with EUR 4.9 billion (USD 5.6 billion) in 2024. The company had approximately 25,500 employees and 206 production facilities across 45 countries.
The company’s 2025 results indicated demand and cost pressures in Western Europe, particularly across its packaging and recycling businesses. Against this backdrop, the Türkiye expansion strengthens ALPLA’s manufacturing presence in a market serving both domestic customers and regional export destinations.
In India, ALPLA operates 10 manufacturing plants, including two in-house facilities. Its operations cover injection moulding, extrusion blow moulding, PET preforms and injection stretch blow moulding. However, the company does not publicly disclose its total India packaging-processing capacity.
Recycling and polymer-market implications
ALPLA reported that 23.7% of its plastic materials came from post-consumer recycled (PCR) sources in 2025. The company has approximately 400,000 t of recycling capacity and aims to increase installed and planned capacity to 700,000 t by 2030. Its 2030 target also includes raising PCR content to 30%.
The Türkiye expansion could support demand for PET and HDPE resins. However, incremental virgin and recycled polymer procurement cannot be quantified without plant-level capacity, utilisation and sourcing data.
Market implications
The new facilities may improve local supply reliability, reduce transportation distances and support faster deliveries to packaging customers. Their impact on regional polymer demand will depend on production volumes, product specifications, recycled-content requirements and the proportion of output supplied to domestic and export markets.
