India: ERW patra pipe prices rise w-o-w across key regions

  • Higher raw material costs continue to lift pipe prices
  • Buying remains need-based amid cautious market sentiment

ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 mm OD) rose w-o-w across key regions in the week ended 11 September 2026, as higher raw material costs increased production costs and supported higher supplier offers. However, the increase was not accompanied by a significant improvement in trading activity, with buyers largely adopting a wait-and-watch approach amid uncertainty over near-term price direction. Market participants were assessing whether prices would rise further or correct from current levels before committing to larger volumes, keeping buying activity largely limited to immediate requirements.

However, on a d-o-d basis, prices showed mixed trends across the two regions. In Raipur, prices remained unchanged at around INR 49,500/t exw on 11 September, while prices in Mandi Gobindgarh increased by INR 600/t d-o-d to around INR 52,900/t exw. Listed prices are ex-works (exw) and exclude 18% GST.

Weekly price trends

Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices in Raipur rose by INR 500/t w-o-w to INR 49,500/t exw on 11 September from INR 49,000/t a week earlier. The increase was primarily driven by higher raw material prices, which raised production costs for pipe manufacturers and encouraged them to raise offers. However, the price increase did not translate into a significant improvement in buying activity, with buyers remaining cautious at elevated price levels and largely limiting purchases to immediate requirements.

A Raipur-based manufacturer stated, “Prices remained broadly stable during the first half of the week, with buying activity largely limited to immediate requirements. However, towards the end of the week, enquiries started to improve as prices surged sharply amid rising raw material costs. Trading activity is expected to improve in the coming days, although the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival may limit the extent of the improvement.”

Mandi Gobindgarh: ERW patra pipe prices increased by INR 700/t w-o-w to INR 52,900/t exw on 11 September, from INR 52,200/t a week earlier. The increase was primarily driven by higher raw material prices, which raised input costs for pipe manufacturers and pushed up production costs. As a result, manufacturers raised their offers to reflect the higher cost of production. However, buying activity remained limited for most of the week, as buyers turned increasingly cautious at elevated price levels and largely restricted purchases to immediate requirements.

Billet: Billet prices in Raipur surged by INR 1,650/t w-o-w to INR 43,550/t exw on 11 September from INR 41,900/t a week earlier. Meanwhile, billet prices in Mandi Gobindgarh increased by INR 950/t w-o-w to INR 47,300/t DAP on 11 September from INR 46,350/t on 4 September.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are expected to remain firm in the coming week, supported by continued increases in raw material prices, which are keeping production costs elevated. Trading activity is also expected to improve as rising prices may prompt buyers to step up purchases and cover their requirements. However, the extent of any further price movement will depend on whether the expected improvement in trading activity develops into sustained buying, along with the direction of raw material prices.
