According to the latest custom data released, South Korean flat steel exports under HS code 7208 (hot rolled products), 7209 (cold rolled products), 7225 (electrical sheets)and 7210/7212 (GP/GC) have been increased marginally by 2% to 1.93 MnT in Dec’16 against Nov’16. The nation’s flat steel exports stood at 1.89 MnT in Nov’16.
On yearly basis, South Korea Flat steel exports slumped by 8% to 1.93 MnT in Dec’16 as compared to 2.09 MnT in Dec’15.
During the period of 2016,the country has exported 22.64 MnT ,down by 2% against 23.12 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.
South-Korea Grade-wise Flat Steel Exports
If grade-wise analysis is made, then 7208 exports have risen by 4% M-o-M in Dec’16 against Nov’16 whereas 7209 have rose considerably by 21% in Dec’16 against previous month. Although, other flat steel grades imports like 7225 declined by 5% y-o-y basis in Dec’16 as compared to Dec’15. However grade 7210 also increased by 4% on yearly basis and grade 7212 remained stable.

Major Flat steel importing countries from South Korea in 2016
China was the foremost buyer of flat steel from South Korea as it imported 0.36 MnT in Dec’16 against 0.32 MnT in Nov’16.Whereas the second largest importer was Japan at 0.23 MnT followed by India, Mexico and Vietnam.
