India: Rice rake movement reaches 410,000t, Karnataka leads inflows

• FCI remained the key participant, moving rice from surplus to consuming states
• Southern and north-eastern destinations continued to receive substantial rice supplies during the week

Rice movement across India remained active during the week, with total tracked rice rake movement reaching 410,448 MT, according to BigMint data, last updated on September 5. The movement was largely supported by FCI-linked consignments, with rice dispatched from major surplus and procurement regions to southern, western, northern and north-eastern destinations.

Karnataka records highest rice inflow

Karnataka emerged as the largest destination, receiving 87,295 MT, with supplies originating from Odisha, Telangana, Punjab and Chhattisgarh. FCI was the key participant, along with private player Sree Murali Mohana Rice. Tamil Nadu followed with 58,023 MT, sourced from Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Chhattisgarh. The movement involved Tamil Nadu Civil Corporation and FCI. Uttar Pradesh received 56,892 MT, with supplies moving from Punjab, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Haryana. The movement was entirely linked to FCI.

Gujarat and Assam see significant inflows

Gujarat recorded rice inflows of 43,884 MT, mainly from Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Chhattisgarh. Assam received 41,215 MT, with supplies arriving from Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. FCI, Lunia Marketing and Sai International were among the listed participants. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh recorded 40,022 MT, with rakes originating from Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The movement involved several private trade participants.

Rice movement extends across northern and north-eastern regions

Rice movement towards the north-eastern and other consuming regions remained notable during the week. Jammu and Kashmir received 13,037 MT, sourced from Punjab, while Manipur and Mizoram received 2,578 MT and 3,868 MT, respectively, also from Punjab. Tripura recorded an inflow of 6,004 MT, with supplies coming from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Punjab. The movement involved both FCI and private trade participants. Other destinations included Jharkhand, which received 16,258 MT from Odisha and Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, which received 10,390 MT from Haryana and Punjab. Maharashtra recorded 13,744 MT, with supplies mainly from Punjab and Chhattisgarh.

Outlook

Rice rake movement is likely to remain supported by FCI dispatches and inter-state requirements, particularly across southern and north-eastern consuming regions. Continued movement from Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and other supply centers should help maintain rice availability across destination markets. The pace of FCI-led dispatches, regional demand and fresh procurement-related requirements will remain key factors influencing rake movement in the coming weeks.
