India: Shree Cement project faces delay risk amid opposition in Meghalaya

Meghalaya MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has urged the government to cancel the public hearing for Shree Cement’s proposed cement plant in East Jaintia Hills, citing environmental concerns. Parts of the district around Sutunga could become uninhabitable ‘within few years’ due to environmental degradation caused by the development of the cement industry, Basaiawmoit said.
