India’s induction furnace (IF) steel prices witnessed mixed trends d-o-d across regions on 25 August 2026.
Sponge iron prices remain unchanged d-o-d in most of the locations except in Durgapur where prices fell marginally by INR 50/t to INR 27,250/t and Raigarh where prices increased by INR 200/t to INR 27,900/t.
Billet prices varied by INR 50-700/t d-o-d across locations, with the inch down seen in Raipur where prices reached INR 40,900/t. Meanwhile, prices rose by INR 700/t in Jalna to INR 43,700/t.
Rebar (Fe 500) prices increased by INR 100-900/t d-o-d. The steepest increase of INR 900/t was seen in Jalna, where prices reached INR 48,700/t.
Trading activity remained low-to-moderate, varying across regions. On the supply side, sellers remained under no immediate pressure to conclude sales as they have received adequate booking orders for finished and semi-finished steel.
However, weak fresh booking orders due to elevated offers continue to slow trading activity. This is putting pressure on mills to adjust trade prices in line with previous booking orders. Prices are expected to remain rangebound in the coming days, with market direction likely to depend on the pace of fresh order bookings and improvement in end-user demand.
The conversion spread from sponge iron (PDRI) to billets for the standalone induction furnaces in the Raipur cluster was assessed at INR 12,400/t.
