- Membership strengthens global collaboration on decarbonisation
- Focus remains on scaling low-carbon cement solutions
UltraTech Cement has joined the Leadership Group for Industry Transition (LeadIT), strengthening its participation in global efforts to decarbonise hard-to-abate industries. The membership provides a platform for collaboration with companies, governments and other stakeholders to accelerate the transition towards low-carbon cement and concrete production.
The cement manufacturer has a global grey cement capacity of 205.5 million tonnes/year and has committed to achieving carbon-neutral concrete by 2050. Its decarbonisation strategy includes improving energy efficiency, increasing the use of alternative fuels and raw materials, expanding renewable energy adoption and developing low-carbon technologies.
The membership may also support greater knowledge sharing and collaboration on technologies and practices required to reduce emissions at scale. As cement producers face increasing pressure to decarbonise while meeting rising infrastructure demand, industry-wide partnerships could play an important role in accelerating the commercial deployment of low-carbon solutions.
