Australian Coal Exports Rise 16% M-o-M in Dec’16: Port Data

Despite prevalence of significantly high coal prices, especially that for Coking Coal, exports of coal from Australia during Dec’16 saw a 16% increase month-on-month, according to port data collected by CoalMint Research.

Out of the 34.8 MnT of the coal exported out of the continent during the last month of 2016, 18.5 MnT comprised of Coking Coal, and the rest 16.3 MnT was Non Coking Coal.

As a matter of fact, exports of Coking Coal assume significance in view of the import dependency of nations, like India, China and Japan.

Out of the 18.5 MnT of Coking Coal exported during Dec’16, 12 MnT was distributed among China, India and Japan—the top importing nations.
