Indian DRI, billet, rebar update – 13 Aug

  • Sellers lift offers amid improved bookings in last 2-3 days
  • Finished steel bookings low to moderate today at higher prices

India’s induction furnace (IF) steel prices increased d-o-d across regions on 13 August 2026.

Sponge iron prices rose by INR 50-450/t d-o-d across locations, with the sharpest increase of INR 450/t seen in Durgapur, where prices reached INR 24,750/t.

Billet prices rose by INR 200-300/t d-o-d across locations, with the highest increase of INR 300/t recorded in Raipur, where prices reached INR 39,000/t.

Rebar (Fe 500) prices climbed up by INR 100-700/t across locations. The highest rise of INR 700/t was recorded in Raigarh to INR 40,500/t.

Prices gained due to improved bookings of both semi-finished and finished steel across major regions in the last 2-3 days. However, finished steel bookings were low to moderate today, attributed to higher prices.

Sellers raised their offers to push the market higher. Consequently, market participants reported negotiations at higher levels, supported by better order inflows and increased confidence among sellers.

Based on the current market scenario, prices are expected to remain firm this week. However, the pace of fresh order bookings depend upon the acceptance of higher offers after recent procurement activity.

The conversion spread from sponge iron (PDRI) to billets for the standalone induction furnaces in the Raipur cluster was assessed at INR 12,950/t.
