Tata Steel inaugurated the 2nd phase of Cold Rolling Mill (CRM) complex BARA at Jamshedpur on 05 Jan’17.
During phase I, the reversing mill of 0.25 MnT pa capacity was installed at CRM BARA to meet the full hard cold rolled (FHCR) requirement of Tata Blue Scope Ltd.
The phase II expansion of CRM BARA includes installation of 0.3 MnT pa Hot Rolled skin passing mill (HSPM) to meet the increased demand of Hot Rolled, Pickled, Skin passed & oil products (HRSPO) in the automotive sector for high-end customers. In order to cater to the input requirement of HSPM, the production capacity of the existing pickling line has also been increased to 0.68 MnT pa from designed capacity of 0.5 MnT pa.
Tata Steel’s crude steel production moves up in FY17 – Tata Steel’s crude steel production was recorded at 7.39 MnT from Apr’16-Nov’16 compared to 6.54 MnT in the same period last fiscal, thus up 13% Y-o-Y.
Tata Steel recently acquired BRPL to enhance operating efficiency at its Kalinganagar plant – It is to be noted that Tata Steel is also ramping up production at its Kalinganagar (Odisha) unit. Towards the end of Dec’16, Tata Steel acquired 100% equity share of Odisha based pellet maker – Brahmani River Pellets (BRPL). BRPL operates a pellet plant of capacity 4 MnT pa, beneficiation plant of 4.7 MnT pa and a 220 kms slurry pipeline connecting pellet & beneficiation units.
