- Investment to strengthen value-added flat steel portfolio
- GP and aluminium-zinc coil capacity proposed
Manaksia Steels Limited has received in-principle approval for a INR 800 crore expansion at its Haldia, West Bengal facility, aimed at strengthening its coated and downstream flat steel portfolio. The project will be implemented in two phases and will expand capacity for cold-rolled (CR), coated and colour-coated steel.
Phase I to add 121,000 t/year coated/downstream capacity
Under Phase I, the company plans to add 31,000 t/year of coated steel and 90,000 t/y of colour-coated steel capacity, taking total capacities to 175,200 t/y and 150,000 t/y, respectively. The phase also includes 95,000 t/y of additional CR capacity, taking total CR capacity to 175,000 t/y.
The first phase involves an estimated investment of INR 375 crore and is targeted for completion by around FY30. The company is already implementing its second colour-coating line and plans to commence a new cold rolling mill shortly. It also proposes additional GP and aluminium-zinc coil production capacity to support downstream demand.
Phase II to further expand value-added capacity
Under Phase II, Manaksia Steels plans to add 100,000 t/y each of coated and CR steel and another 90,000 t/y of colour-coated steel.
Following both phases, coated steel capacity is expected to reach 275,200 t/y, while colour-coated steel capacity will rise to 240,000 t/y. Combined coated and colour-coated capacity would therefore reach around 515,000 t/y, strengthening the company’s position in India’s value-added and downstream flat steel segment.
Phase II is targeted for completion by around FY34, with an estimated investment of INR 425 crore plus land value.
The expansion will significantly increase Manaksia Steels’ downstream footprint, with the company focusing on higher-value coated and colour-coated products alongside CR capacity to cater to growing demand from construction, infrastructure and other end-use sectors.
