According to preliminary custom data, Brazil’s slab export surged 12%, on monthly basis to 0.58 MnT in Dec’16 compared to 0.52 MnT in Nov’16.
On yearly basis, Brazil slab exports registered a significant downfall of 30% to 0.58 MnT in Dec’16 against 0.83 MnT in Dec’15.
In CY 16 the Brazil shipped 5.91 MnT of slab, down 10% against 6.59 MnT in CY15.
Turkey the largest importer of Brazil’s slab
In Dec’16, Turkey was the foremost buyer and imported 0.17 MnT, followed by United States which stood at 0.16 MnT and Germany at 0.09 MnT. However, Brazil’s CSP which is the joint venture between Brazil Miner Vale and South Korean steelmakers Dongkuk and POSCO has produced 1MnT of slab in 2016.

Slab Export Offers
Slab export offers from Latin America are assessed in the range of USD 420-430/MT, FoB Whereas import offers from South East Asian Countries are in the range of USD 425-430/MT,CFR basis.
However, slab export offers from CIS countries are hovering in the range of USD 415-425/MT on FoB basis.
