Vietnam: Pepper prices remain steady as export growth offsets weak demand, market outlook stays volatile

  • Domestic pepper prices steady at VND 138,000-141,000/kg; global market remains stable
  • Vietnam’s H1 pepper exports rise 18.5% y-o-y, while short-term outlook remains volatile

Domestic pepper prices in Vietnam remained unchanged on 4 August, with key producing regions quoting prices between VND 138,000/kg and VND 141,000/kg. Global pepper prices also remained stable across major exporting countries. Although Vietnam’s pepper exports recorded strong growth during the first half of 2026, the market continues to face pressure from slower import demand and geopolitical uncertainties, keeping the short-term outlook volatile.

Domestic and global pepper prices remain stable

Domestic pepper prices were unchanged from the previous session across all producing regions. Prices ranged between VND 138,000/kg and VND 141,000/kg, with the lowest quotations at VND 138,000/kg and the highest at VND 141,000/kg.

In the international market, pepper prices also remained stable. Indonesian black and white pepper traded at $6,760-9,317/t, while Brazilian black pepper was quoted at USD 5,700/t. Malaysian black and white pepper continued to command premium prices at $9,300/t and $12,200/t, respectively. Vietnam’s export quotations were unchanged, with black pepper priced at $5,970-6,050/t and ASTA white pepper at $8,350/t.

Exports strengthen despite price pressure and geopolitical impact

According to customs data, Vietnam exported nearly 80,000 t of pepper during the second quarter of 2026, up 20.8% q-o-q and 5.1% y-o-y. Cumulatively, first-half exports reached 146,003 t, generating $950.2 million, marking an increase of 18.5% in volume and 12.1% in export value compared with the same period last year.

Despite stronger export performance, domestic pepper prices during the second quarter declined by 4.6-5.4%, or approximately VND 7,000-8,000/kg, from the first quarter due to the impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Average domestic prices during the quarter remained in the range of VND 138,500-141,000/kg.

Outlook

The global pepper market is expected to remain volatile in the near term as limited supply continues to support prices, while the pace of import demand recovery remains slow. The combined impact of supply constraints and subdued buying activity is likely to keep market sentiment uncertain.
