Japan monthly coal imports recorded a downfall of 4.3% in Nov’16. Besides yearly imports declined marginally by 0.2% compared to Nov’15.
Japan, the world’s third largest coal importers, coal imports stood at 17.1 MnT in Nov’16. The country’s total monthly imports have fallen by 4.3%, compared to Oct’16. While yearly imports down slightly which was at 17.09 MnT in Nov’15.
Japan’s coal imports, including Bituminous, Coking, Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades. In the month of Nov’16, out of the total import, the country imported 12.3 MnT Bituminous, 2.8 MnT coking and about 0.8 MnT coke & anthracite.

Quantity in MnT
In the first eleven months of 2016 (Jan’16-Nov’16), the coal imports is down by 1% to 180.3 MnT, compared with the same period in 2016.
Major exporting countries in Nov’16
Australia was the largest supplier to Japan in Nov’16, shipped about 10.7 MnT coal with a fall of 4.8% compared with Oct’16 and also declined by 3.5% on yearly basis.
Moreover Australia caters more than 60% share of the total coal imports of Japan. Also recorded as top supplied about 111.7 MnT coal over Jan’16-Nov’16.
Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to Japan, exported about 2.8 MnT coal in Nov’16 with a remarkable growth of 11.7% M-o-M. While yearly exports has also noted a growth of 14.3% which was 2.5 MnT in Nov’15.
Russia, the third largest coal exporter to Japan, shipped around 1.7 MnT coal in during the month, down by 8.6% M-o-M and by 4.4% Y-o-Y.
