India: ERW patra pipe prices rise w-o-w amid supply tightness

  • Need-based procurement may limit further price gains in Raipur
  • Kanwar Yatra-related disruptions may weigh on Mandi Gobindgarh activity

ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 mm OD) increased w-o-w across key regions in the week ended 31 July 2026, primarily driven by tighter material availability and higher raw material costs, even as demand remained largely need-based.

On a d-o-d basis, however, prices remained stable in both regions. In Raipur, pipe prices were assessed at INR 45,200/t exw on 31 July, while prices in Mandi Gobindgarh stood at INR 48,100/t exw. Prices are exw and exclude 18% GST.

Weekly price trends

Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices in Raipur increased by INR 400/t w-o-w to INR 45,200/t exw on 31 July from INR 44,800/t in the previous week, supported by tighter material availability that prompted mills to raise offers. However, higher price levels failed to stimulate trading activity, as buyers continued to procure material against immediate need-based requirements. Consequently, offers eased marginally towards the latter half of the week, weighed down by limited buying interest and a decline in raw material costs.

A Raipur-based manufacturer said, “Demand continued to remain largely need-based. Even with orders in hand, timely deliveries remained a key concern as rainfall-related disruptions slowed dispatches, while limited availability of ready material continued to constrain supply.”

Mandi Gobindgarh: ERW patra pipe prices in Mandi Gobindgarh increased by INR 400/t w-o-w to INR 48,100/t exw on 31 July from INR 47,700/t in the previous week. Similar to Raipur, prices firmed during the first half of the week before easing towards the latter half as higher offers failed to attract sufficient buying interest. Meanwhile, scheduled power cuts during the previous week, as electricity supply was prioritised for agricultural use, disrupted production and tightened material availability. The resulting decline in output supported prices despite the absence of any significant improvement in demand.

A Mandi Gobindgarh-based manufacturer said, “Market activity is expected to slow further over the next 10-15 days as the Kanwar Yatra is likely to disrupt road transportation across parts of Uttar Pradesh. Truck movement is expected to remain affected by phased traffic restrictions and heavy vehicle diversions across western Uttar Pradesh, including Muzaffarnagar and Meerut, with the resulting logistical disruptions expected to weigh on overall trading activity.”

Raw material prices

HR strip (patra): HR strip (patra) prices in Raipur rose by INR 600/t w-o-w to INR 44,400/t exw on 31 July from INR 43,800/t on 24 July 2026. Similarly, patra prices in Mandi Gobindgarh increased by INR 400/t w-o-w to INR 47,100/t exw on 31 July from INR 46,700/t a week earlier.

Billet: Billet prices in Raipur declined by INR 150/t w-o-w to INR 38,350/t exw on 31 July from INR 38,500/t a week earlier. Similarly, billet prices in Mandi Gobindgarh edged down by INR 150/t w-o-w to INR 42,100/t DAP on 31 July from INR 42,250/t a week earlier. Prices strengthened during the first half of the week before easing towards the latter half as buying interest remained weak and procurement was largely restricted to immediate requirements.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are expected to remain largely stable with a slight downward bias in the coming week as buyers continue to procure material on a need-based basis. In Raipur, while constrained availability of ready material in select sizes may provide some price support, limited order inflows are likely to restrict any meaningful price gains. Additionally, rainfall-related disruptions may continue to weigh on market sentiment.

In Mandi Gobindgarh, the limited availability of ready material due to power cut-related production disruptions may provide some support to prices. However, if buyers continue to procure material only against immediate requirements, it may limit any significant price movement. Meanwhile, transportation disruptions due to the Kanwar Yatra across western Uttar Pradesh, including truck movement restrictions and route diversions, may affect dispatches and trading activity, keeping market sentiment cautious in the coming week.
