Trade statistics released from Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that world’s largest iron ore exporter, Australia exported around 69.67 MnT iron ore in Oct’16.
Iron ore exports have witnessed a growth of 1% M-o-M as it was 68.74 MnT in Oct’16. However, Australian iron ore exports grew by 5% on Y-o-Y basis as it was 66.09 MnT in Oct’15.
During the first 10 months of 2016, the country exported 665.5 MnT iron ore, up by 4.6% Y-o-Y as 636.2 MnT iron ore was exported from the country in the same period prior this year.
Australian Port Hedland exports around 70% of total Australian iron ore exports. In Oct’16, exports from the Port was registered at 41.6 MnT, slightly down by 1% M-o-M and up by 14% Y-o-Y.
The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) export in Oct’16 was registered at 69.52 MnT, up by 1% M-o-M and 6% Y-o-Y. On similar lines, the agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) export was registered at 0.15 MnT, down by 35% M-o-M. The nation exported 0.31 MnT agglomerated ore in Oct’15.
- China imports around 85% of total Australian iron ore. In Oct’16, the country imported 59.15 MnT iron ore, up by 3% M-o-M. However, on Y-o-Y basis, country’s imports from Australia grew by 13% as it was 52.39 MnT in Oct’15.
- Japan, the second-largest iron ore imports have imported 5.05 MnT iron ore in Oct’16. Country’s imports from Australia moved down by 9% M-o-M. The nation imported 5.05 MnT iron ore in Oct’15.
- South Korea, the third-largest iron ore importer has imported 3.90 MnT iron ore in Oct’16, down by 7% M-o-M and up by 20% Y-o-Y.
