The Andhra Pradesh government has announced that commonly consumed rice varieties will be made available at reduced prices through special outlets across the state from 1 August, aiming to provide relief to consumers affected by rising rice prices.
Govt partners with rice millers to ease consumer burden
The decision was announced by Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar following discussions with representatives of the Rice Millers Association at the Secretariat in Amaravati.
Under the initiative, super fine rice varieties, including BPT and KNM, currently retailing between INR 62-68/kg, will be sold at INR 52/kg. Grade-1 raw rice, presently priced between INR 55-58/kg, will be made available at INR 50/kg.
The Rice Millers Association has agreed to supply rice at the revised prices through nearly 500 rice mill outlets across the state. In addition, the rice will be available at 130 special outlets in Rythu Bazars, enabling consumers in both urban and rural areas to access the subsidised rice.
Initiative aims to ease pressure on consumers
The price reduction initiative is intended to provide relief to households affected by the recent increase in retail rice prices. By making commonly consumed rice varieties available at lower prices through designated outlets, the state government aims to improve affordability for consumers across both urban and rural areas.
