In FY17 (till Nov’16) iron ore production in Odisha was recorded at 59.43 MnT against 45.46 MnT recorded in the same period last fiscal.
Odisha iron ore production remained stable on monthly premises and stood at 8.68 MnT in Nov’16. In Oct’16, Odisha iron ore production was recorded at 8.67 MnT. On yearly basis (i.e. compared to Nov’15), state’s iron ore production has improved by 49% against 5.84 MnT in Nov’15.
Rungta Mines, the largest merchant iron ore producer in Odisha ramped up its production from 2.50 MnT in Oct’16 to 2.59 MnT in Nov’16 (up by 4% M-o-M). Iron ore production of other major merchant miners in Nov’16 remained as follows: Serajuddin Mines (1.14 MnT, up 30% M-o-M); Indrani Patnaik (0.45 MnT, down 8% M-o-M) and KJS Ahluwalia (0.36 MnT, down 60% M-o-M).
State owned unit – Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) registered sharp increase in its iron ore production from 0.15 MnT in Oct’16 to 0.40 MnT in Nov’16.
Talking about captive mines, Tata Steel’s iron ore production was recorded at 1.01 MnT and that of SAIL stood at 0.63 MnT.

Odisha’s iron ore production at 59.43 MnT from Apr-Nov’16- So far in this fiscal (till Nov’16), Odisha’s iron ore production has touched 59.43 MnT, up 31% Y-o-Y. Amongst merchant mines, Rungta Mines remains the largest producer at 14.47 MnT followed by Serajuddin Mines at 6.54 MnT and KJS Ahluwalia at 4.34 MnT.
In Nov’16, Odisha based merchant miners have produced 6.71 MnT iron ore however dispatches in the same time frame stood at 5.89 MnT (excluding movement for export).
