- June met coke output slips, annual growth remains positive.
- H1 production rises as Chinese coke operations stay stable.
June production slips m-o-m but remains above last year
China produced 42.04 million tonnes (mnt) of met coke in June 2026, down from 42.72 mnt in May 2026, marking a 1.59% month-on-month (m-o-m) decline.
However, production was marginally higher compared with 41.70 mnt recorded in June 2025, reflecting a 0.82% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase. The annual growth suggests that production remained resilient despite the seasonal moderation in monthly output.
H1’26 production increases 1.46% y-o-y
During the January-June 2026 period, China’s cumulative met coke production reached 252.5 mnt, compared with 248.87 mnt in the corresponding period of 2025. This represents a 1.46% increase, with output rising by 3.63 mnt year on year.
The steady increase in H1 production indicates that Chinese coke producers maintained relatively stable operating rates during the first six months of the year. Although June output softened from May levels, cumulative production remained above last year’s level, reflecting balanced supply conditions and continued support from the domestic steel industry.
