- Scheme extended till 30 September, 2026
- Higher duty drawback enhances Pakistan’s global competitiveness
The government of Pakistan has extended its concessional duty drawback scheme for rice exporters by three months and enhanced incentives to help Pakistani rice remain competitive in international markets.
Scheme extended until 30 September
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce, the concession period has been extended from 30 June to 30 September, 2026. The government has also approved an additional 2% concession under the Rs20 billion duty drawback scheme.
The government said the extension is aimed at bringing the prices of Pakistani rice on par with Indian rice in the global market while boosting the country’s rice exports.
Revised duty drawback and claim eligibility
Under the revised scheme, basmati rice exporters will receive a 9% concessional duty drawback, while the drawback for non-basmati rice has been increased from 3% to 5%. The notification states that claims will be accepted for shipments made up to September 30, 2026, or until eligible claims generated through the Pakistan Single Window (PSW) reach the Rs20 billion limit, whichever occurs first. Once the allocation is exhausted, no further drawback claims will be accepted under the scheme.
Outlook
The extension of the duty drawback scheme is expected to provide continued support to Pakistan’s rice exporters, helping maintain the competitiveness of Pakistani rice in international markets during the extended concession period.
