India: GP Petroleums’ JV Amron Oil named IOCL operating partner for Pipavav bitumen unit

  • Amron Oil to operate IOCL’s Pipavav Bitumen Cell in Gujarat
  • Appointment expands GP Petroleums’ presence in the road construction value chain

GP Petroleums Limited (GPPL) announced that its joint venture, Amron Oil Resources, has been selected as the operating partner for Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL) Pipavav bitumen cell in Gujarat. The appointment strengthens the company’s presence in India’s specialty bitumen segment and supports the distribution of value-added bitumen products used in road construction and infrastructure projects.

The Pipavav bitumen cell, located near Pipavav Port, commenced bulk bitumen dispatches on 4 June 2026 under IOCL’s SPRINT 2026 Mission Excellence initiative. The strategically located facility is expected to improve the distribution of specialty bitumen products across Gujarat and neighbouring regions by enhancing coastal logistics and supply efficiency.

Amron Oil Resources is a 50:50 joint venture between GP Petroleums Limited and West Coast Oils LLP. The company manufactures specialty bitumen products, including bitumen emulsions, polymer modified bitumen (PMB) and crumb rubber modified bitumen (CRMB), which are widely used in road construction to improve pavement durability and performance.

GPPL is an ISO-certified manufacturer and marketer of industrial and automotive lubricants, process oils, transformer oils, greases and specialty petroleum products under the IPOL brand. Established in 1973, the company operates a manufacturing facility at Vasai near Mumbai with a base oil storage capacity of 15,000 kilolitres and an annual blending capacity of 80,000 kilolitres.

Its products are exported to more than 12 countries, and the company also holds the exclusive partnership for manufacturing and distributing Repsol-branded lubricants in India. Commercial terms, contract tenure and the storage or throughput capacity of the Pipavav bitumen cell have not been disclosed.

The appointment broadens GP Petroleums’ participation beyond its core lubricants business into the infrastructure-linked bitumen segment, expanding its footprint across the petroleum products value chain. It also aligns with India’s continued investment in highways, expressways, and urban road infrastructure, where demand for high-performance bitumen products continues to grow.
