India: ITC to invest INR 8 crore to expand tomato cultivation in Andhra Pradesh

  • ITC to invest in Kuppam’s tomato cultivation infrastructure
  • Project targets higher productivity, improved market connectivity

ITC has partnered with the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA) to invest INR 8 crore in climate-controlled infrastructure for tomato cultivation in Andhra Pradesh. The initiative aims to strengthen sustainable tomato production while improving supply chain efficiency and market access for growers in the region.

Production capacity and precision farming in focus

The project is expected to support tomato cultivation across 1,000 acres, with an estimated production of 10,000 metric tonnes (t). The initiative will facilitate direct market linkages with major consumption centres, including Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, enhancing marketing opportunities for farmers.

In parallel, KADA has also partnered with Visalakshi Innovations Sustainable Value Chain to introduce precision farming techniques and modern agricultural machinery, with the objective of improving cultivation efficiency and farm productivity.

Outlook

The investment is expected to strengthen tomato production capacity and improve supply chain integration in south India over the medium term. Enhanced infrastructure, modern cultivation practices and stronger market linkages could support more consistent tomato supplies while encouraging further private investment in the horticulture sector.
