Netherlands monthly coal imports fall by 30% in Sep’16. Yearly imports also recorded a downfall of 46% as compared to Sep’15.
Netherlands, one of the world’s largest coal importers, has imported 3.18 MnT, coal in Sep’16. The country’s imports have declined on monthly basis. While, yearly imports also fell by 46% which was at 5.89 MnT in Sep’15. As per Netherlands customs data.
Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 40% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades.
In the month of Sep’16, out of the total imports, the country has received 1.36 MnT Bituminous coal, 0.83 MnT Coking coal and about 0.99 MnT other grades.

Quantity in MnT
In the first nine months of 2016 (Jan’16-Sep’16), the coal imports has reported downfall of 13% to 40.08 MnT, compared with the same period in 2015.
Major exporting countries in Sep’16
Colombia, the largest supplier to Netherlands, shipped about 0.99 MnT coal in Sep’16 with a fall of 37% M-o-M compared with Aug’16 and down by 29.5% Y-o-Y.
Moreover, Colombia supplies about 30% share of the total yearly coal imports of Netherlands. Again recorded as top supplier and shipped about 11.47 MnT coal over Jan’16-Sep’16.
Australia, the second-largest coal exporter to Netherlands, exported 0.70 MnT coal in Sep’16 with a significant increase of 52% M-o-M. While yearly exports have also recorded a growth by 7% which was 0.66 MnT in Sep’15.
Russia, the third largest coal exporter to Netherlands, shipped around 0.54 MnT coal during the month, down by 43% M-o-M. Also, recording a downfall of 66% Y-o-Y.
