Netherlands, one of the top ten coal exporters across the globe witnessed a growth in its monthly coal exports during Sep’16 and stood at 2.8 MnT.
Netherlands coal exports — metallurgical, Bituminous and other grades stood at 2.8 MnT in Sep’16 with a rise of 15% compared to Aug’16. In contrast, coal exports recorded a downfall of 9% in Sep’16 from 3.1 MnT in Sep’15 Y-o-Y, as per the latest updates by EU customs.
Out of the total exports, the country shipped more than 45% Bituminous coal to different destinations and rest quantity comprises Metallurgical, Coke, Pet coke and Anthracite.

Quantity in MnT
For the first nine months of the year (Jan’16-Sep’16), the country has shipped total quantity of around 28.05 MnT coal worldwide, down by 1% from 28.28. MnT at the same period last year.

Major Coal Export Destinations in Sep’16
The country has been exporting more than 90% of coal to its top 5 export destinations every month such as Germany (84%), Belgium (5%), France (2%), Mexico (2%) and Spain (1%).
Germany is one of the largest buyers of Netherlands coal. Out of the total export, the country shipped about 80% of coal to Germany every year.
In Sep’16, Germany took about 2.4 MnT coal; Up by 14% compared to last month. While, yearly imports also rose by 4%, which was 2.3 MnT in Sep’15.
Belgium, the second-largest coal importer during the month, imported about 0.2 MnT coal in Sep’16, with a sharp rise by 200% compared to 0.05 MnT in Aug’16. In contrast, the nation’s yearly imports recorded a downfall of 52%, which was 0.3 MnT in Sep’15.
France, the third-largest coal importer from Australia in Sep’16, imported about 0.05 MnT coal during the month, recorded a growth of 90% which was 0.03 MnT in Aug’16. While, import moved down by 12% Y-o-Y.
