China: June stainless crude steel output falls 8% m-o-m on 200-series production cuts

  • 200-series output drops 19% m-o-m
  • Production expected to recover in July

SteelDaily: China’s stainless steel crude steel production declined in June 2026, primarily due to production cuts in the 200-series segment. According to Mysteel, output from 43 Chinese stainless steel producers stood at 3.51 million tonnes (mnt), down 7.9% m-o-m.

The sharpest decline was recorded in the 200 series, with production falling 18.6% m-o-m to 0.88 mnt, as several mills implemented planned production cuts during the month. Meanwhile, 300-series output declined 4% to 1.98 mnt, while 400-series production slipped 2.8% to 0.66 mnt.

Production is expected to recover in July as maintenance shutdowns conclude and mills gradually resume operations. Mysteel estimates stainless steel crude steel production will increase 2.4% m-o-m to 3.60 mnt, led by a rebound in the 200-series to 1.04 mnt. Output of the 300-series is projected at 1.86 mnt, while the 400-series is expected to reach 0.70 mnt.

The anticipated production recovery could increase stainless steel supply in the domestic market, although demand trends and raw material prices, particularly nickel, will continue to influence market sentiment in the coming weeks.
