Germany’s monthly coal imports recorded to 4.4 MnT in Sep’16 with a marginal drop of 0.5%. Besides, yearly imports also noted a fall by more than 22% as compared to Sep’15.
Germany, one of the largest coal importers in the world, has imported about 4.4 MnT, coal in Sep’16, recorded the 2nd lowest imported quantity of the year (Since Jan’16). The country’s imports down by 0.5% on monthly basis. While, yearly imports witnessed a significant decline by 22.4% which was at 5.6 MnT in Sep’15.
Out of the total imports, the country receives more than 50% bituminous coal from the different origins and rest quantity comprises Coking, Anthracite, Coke and Pet coke.

In the first nine months of 2016 (Jan’16-Sep’16), the coal import has declined by 4% to 42.3 MnT, compared with the same period in 2015.

Major exporting countries in Sep’16
Netherland, emerged as the largest coal exporter to Germany in Sep’16, exported about 2.5 MnT coal during the month with a slight fall of 2% M-o-M. While yearly export has fallen by 14% Y-o-Y, which was 2.9 MnT in Sep’15.
Russia, the second-largest supplier to the country, shipped about 0.97 MnT coal in Sep’16 with a remarkable growth of 33% compared with Aug’16, also rose by 25.6% on yearly basis.
Poland, the third largest coal exporter to Germany, shipped around 0.2 MnT coal in during the month, down by 9% M-o-M. While, recorded a sharp fall of more than 65% on yearly basis.
