As per SteelMint’s analysis, iron ore movement across major producing states of the country was recorded at 12.9 MnT in Nov’16 against 12.5 MnT in Oct’16. The figure has been compiled on the basis of movements made via railways, trucks, Karnataka and Goa e-auction data and import data as per customs. The figure indicated does not include the captive iron ore movement of SAIL & Tata Steel and movement for exports.
State-wise iron ore movement analysis –
Iron ore dispatches from Odisha down by 3% – Iron ore dispatches from Odisha fell from 6.33 MnT in Oct’16 to 6.11 MnT in Nov’16. Increased movement for exports led to limited rake availability for domestic movement which resulted in lesser dispatches. Dispatches from Rungta Mines declined by 5% M-o-M to 1.63 MnT in Nov’16. Iron ore dispatches of other major miners stood as follows: Serajuddin Mines (1 MnT) and KJS Ahluwalia (0.72 MnT).
Chhattisgarh iron ore movement increased further in Nov – Increased iron ore sourcing of Vizag Steel, KIOCL & export movement from NMDC, Chhattisgarh led to increased iron ore movement from Chhattisgarh last month. C.G. iron ore movement moved up from 1.75 MnT in Oct’16 to 1.84 MnT in Nov’16. C.G. based plants’ iron ore sourcing from NMDC remained stable on monthly premises.
Karnataka iron ore sales 3 MnT in Nov’16; highest in FY17 – Iron ore sales via Karnataka e-auctions stood at 3.09 MnT in Nov’16 compared 1.92 MnT in Oct’16. NMDC sold 1.4 MnT iron ore via Nov’16 e-auctions. Largest buyer – JSW Steel procured 2.43 MnT iron ore.
0.59 MnT iron ore sold through Nov’16 Goa e-auction – Nov’16 witnessed single iron ore e-auction. Out of 2.04 MnT offered, 0.59 MnT iron ore was allotted in total, out of which 80% was ROM. Exporters actively participated in the e-auction. Infrastil Global emerged the largest bidder at 0.19 MnT followed by Amit Earthmovers at 0.13 MnT.
Iron ore import to India up by 17% M-o-M – Indian iron ore import was recorded at 0.56 MnT in Nov’16 against 0.48 MnT in Oct’16. JSW Steel was the largest importer at 0.49 MnT. Single pellet import vessel from Australia of 0.1 MnT by Essar Steel was noticed in Nov’16.
Indian iron ore exports moved up further in Nov’16 – Iron ore export from India which stood at 1.62 MnT in Oct’16 increased and was recorded at 2.57 MnT in Nov’16. Vedanta remained the largest exporter at 0.9 MnT followed by Fomento Resources and NMDC.
Monthly pellet exports from India crossed 1 MnT mark in Nov’16 and stood at 1.05 MnT compared to 0.75 MnT in Oct’16. BRPL remained the largest exporter at 0.23 MnT followed by Essar Steel and JSPL.
