  • Chrome ore costs support hike in bids
  • Indian ferro chrome prices increase by INR 3,300/t ($35/t) m-o-m

At Vedanta-FACOR’s ferro chrome auction yesterday, the larger lot (Cr: 57% min, 10-150 mm) fetched an H1 price of INR 122,700/t ($1,299/t) exw, up by INR 1,500/t ($16/t) from the base price of INR 121,200/t ($1,283/t). As compared to the previous auction on 20 May’26, bids for the larger lot increased by INR 3,000/t ($32/t) exw. The entire offered volume was booked at the auction, as per official sources.

Factors supporting rise in bids

Supply constraints supporting prices: Indian ferro chrome prices moved higher in June by around INR 3,300/t ($35/t), supported mainly by tight availability of high-grade material in the domestic market and improved export realizations following the depreciation of the Indian rupee. Several producers maintained firm offers as spot availability remained limited, while some suppliers were already committed to earlier bookings and export orders.

Although stainless steel demand remained subdued, controlled supply conditions and sellers’ reluctance to offer discounts helped sustain the upward price trend. As a result, ferro chrome prices registered a moderate increase during the month.

Rise in bids at OMC’s chrome ore auction: At OMC’s chrome ore auction on 19 June 2026, 76,500 t were booked out of 108,600 t offered. Bid premiums for most grades increased by 1-4%, while a few grades saw a marginal decline of 1-2%.
