- SAIL Bhilai auction prices rise 3-4%, Rourkela up 2%
- Strong buyer participation lifts auction realisations
SAIL’s Bhilai and Rourkela steel plants recorded higher realisations in their latest crude coal tar auctions, driven by firm market sentiment, improved demand from downstream coal tar distillation units, and supportive pricing trends across derivative products.
At Bhilai, SAIL auctioned 1,995 tonnes (t) of crude coal tar on 25 May 2026 at an average weighted price of INR 54,000-55,000/t. The realised price increased by approximately 3-4% compared to the previous auction held on 14 May 2026, when the entire offered quantity was sold at an average weighted price of INR 52,600/t. The increase was supported by stronger buying interest amid expectations of stable downstream demand and firm feedstock fundamentals.
Similarly, SAIL Rourkela auctioned 10,000 t of crude coal tar on 21 May 2026 at an average weighted price of INR 53,200/t, up nearly by 2% from the previous auction conducted on 24 April 2026. In the earlier auction, the full offered quantity of 7,000 t was sold at an average price of INR 52,300/t. The price improvement was primarily attributed to healthy participation from processors and sustained demand for coal tar derivatives, which continued to support market confidence.
