India: Crude coal tar prices inch up in recent SAIL-Bhilai auction

  • Demand firm in Bhilai auctions
  • Prices inch up by INR 100/t

Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) auction of crude coal tar from the Bhilai plant continued to witness healthy participation during April-May, supported by steady procurement interest from regular buyers and stable downstream operating conditions.

SAIL-Bhilai conducted another coal tar auction on 14 May, offering 2,497 t. The entire quantity witnessed healthy demand and was sold at an average weighted price of INR 52,600/t, up INR 100/t from the previous auction held on 22 April.

Earlier, BSP had auctioned a total of 4,194 t of coal tar in April, with the entire offered quantity successfully sold out across two separate auctions. On 4 April, the company auctioned 1,997 t at an average weighted price of INR 56,100/t. This was followed by another auction on 22 April, where 2,197 t was sold at an average weighted price of INR 52,500/t.

The strong response in auctions during April reflected sustained buying interest amid expectations of continued firmness in domestic coal tar prices and stable demand from downstream consumers.
