Australia: Port Dampier wharf maintenance to pause cargo operations from 18-24 May

  • DCW berths closed for six days due to deck repair works
  • Shipping and berthing activity suspended during shutdown

The Port of Dampier has announced a temporary shutdown of the Dampier Cargo Wharf (DCW) East and West berths to facilitate maintenance and deck repair works. The closure will remain effective from 18-24 May 2026. The maintenance shutdown comes amid improved iron ore shipping activity from Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

According to the notice issued by Landside Operations (Dampier), all shipping operations at DCW will remain suspended during the shutdown period, and berth applications for the affected window will not be accepted. Vessels currently alongside the berth will also be required to depart before the maintenance begins.

The shutdown could temporarily impact vessel scheduling, cargo movement, and iron ore shipment planning from the Pilbara region during the maintenance period.

Iron ore shipments from Port Hedland and Port Dampier increased by 15.8% and 5.6% m-o-m, respectively, in Mar’26 to 46.36 million tonnes (mnt) and 11.35 mnt, supported by improved weather conditions, recovery in mining operations after earlier cyclonic disruptions, and steady demand from China’s steel sector.
