Indian Anthracite Coal Market Continues Seeing Weak Demand, Feeble Imports

There has been no improvement in the Anthracite Coal market in India—sluggish demand continues persisting. But, the market in the overseas regions is otherwise.

Import offers have undergone no change from that the week last. The latest import offers were assessed at USD 135/MT CFR India.

Demand for the coal variant is particularly strong in China, where the fertilizer industry is actively procuring the coal. As a result of the strong demand, prices of Anthracite Coal in China have risen by around 3.8% to USD 109.8/MT from USD 105.8/MT in the last week.

Also, demand from power plants in most of the Asian regions (India being the exception) is rising due to stocking of the coal to meet the peak power demand in the winter season.

IMPORTS

It is needless to say that there has been almost no propensity for imports in India due to prevalence of weak demand. During the 1-28 Nov’16 period, only 61,300 MT of Anthracite Coal was imported into India, data compiled by CoalMint Research shows.
