JFE Steel has commissioned a new electric furnace at its East Japan Works (Chiba), strengthening stainless steel production and advancing decarbonisation efforts. The JPY15 billion investment increases scrap melting capacity to 300,000 t per year, nearly six times previous levels. By shifting from BF inputs to scrap, it aims to cut CO₂ emissions by around 450,000 t annually, supporting its 2030 carbon neutrality target.
