SC Adjourns JSPL-Sarda Mines Case Hearing on 18 Jan’17

The Supreme Court had scheduled final disposal of JSPL-Sarda mines’ case today (i.e. on 23 Nov’16). But in the latest round of update received the Apex Court has adjourned the case hearing till 18 Jan’17.

A company official in conversation with SteelMint shared that Advocate Prashant Bhushan had requested the Supreme Court to adjourn the hearing as he has undergone a surgery. Following this the Apex Court has adjourned the hearing till 18 Jan’17.

JSPL- Sarda mines case history at a glance:

  1. Owing to lack of necessary clearances, Sarda mines was closed on Apr’14
  2. 8 Apr’16 – Odisha High Court ordered JSPL to lift its iron ore stocks lying at Sarda mines
  3. 13 Jul’16 – Odisha High Court directed the state government to allow JSPL to fast track the procedures and allow the steel maker to lift iron ore stock lying at Sarda mines within 4 weeks
  4. In mid Jul’16, Odisha government was making plans to file SLP against Odisha HC order
  5. Towards the beginning of Aug’16, it was reported that Odisha government had already filed SLP against state HC order on lifting stocks from Sarda mines
  6. Towards the end of Aug’16, Supreme Court did not grant any stay order on the SLP filed by Odisha government

JSPL is presently sourcing iron ore from its currently operational Tensa mines and fulfills rest of its ore requirement from Odisha based merchant mines. So far in this fiscal (till Oct’16) the steel maker has sourced 4.38 MnT iron ore from Odisha based merchant mines (primarily from Kaypee Enterprises and AMTC).
